The couple grew from strength to strength to get their hands on the GlitterBall Trophy after Kevin had made the final four times previously with his celebrity partner.
Other stars Kevin has been paired with include EastEnders actress Kellie Bright, 43, Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid, 48, singers Frankie Bridge, 30, and Louise Redknapp, 44 and comedian Susan Calman, 44.
However, it seems they all could have had an input into being paired with the Strictly professional as Kevin has now spoken about the coupling process for the show.
As viewers know, each celebrity is partnered with a professional based on the two groups spending some time preparing for a group performance ahead of the coupling show.
Once partnered up, the couples then have two weeks to learn their first dance before taking to the floor for the first time in front of judging panel.
“We do have a WhatsApp group, the pros do have a WhatsApp group, so when the celebs start getting announced, usually throughout August, we are all on the group with each other saying ‘she’d be good for you’ or ‘he’d be good for you,’” Kevin told BBC Radio Solent.
Although the professionals can chat amongst themselves who they would like, they have no say on which famous face they want to be paired with.
It may be a little different for the celebrities though, who sit down with the producers to speak about who they think they would work well with, as Kevin explained.
“I believe the celebs get to talk to the producers a little bit and say, ‘I would like someone like this.’”
The professional continued: “Some of them might like a more strict approach or more soft. I believe there’s some sort of conversation between the celebs and the producers, but the pros – no.”
Even though he is unlikely to get a say, Kevin revealed he would like to be coupled up with next.
“For some reason, I don’t know why. I just like the idea of it, I’d really love to do Strictly with Dawn French.”
“I don’t know why – I think she would be wicked,” Kevin said of The Vicar of Dibley star.
Viewers will have to wait and see which celebrities will make up this year’s line-up and who Kevin will be partnered with as they anticipate who will be stepping into the shoes of Dame Darcey Bussell, 50, on the judging panel.
The rumour mill has been rife with speculation on who could replace the departing judge, with names thrown into the hat including professionals on the show and former champions.
One of the most heavily stapled names to the role has been professional and The Greatest Dancer judge, Oti Mabuse, 28, who has been on the show since 2015.
Ahead of the show’s return, it seems Oti will be out of the running to be the new judge as a source told The Sun: “The move would have cause uproar among the cast – it would be one thing giving Anton the role, but Oti is still fledgling in her career.
“The thought was that the other dances wouldn’t react well to Oti being a judge.
“She is popular but if the dynamic changed and she went from being one of them into another role on the show, it’s likely that this would cause friction and upset.”
