Olivia Colman’s pals tipping star to win second Oscar next week | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

She charmed Hollywood in 2019 after scooping the best actress gong for her role as Queen Anne in The Favourite, gushing: “This is hilarious, I’ve got an Oscar!” Now the 47-year-old could win another Academy Award in the early hours of Monday after being nominated for best supporting actress for her role with Anthony Hopkins in parental drama The Father.

Olivia’s co-star in The Night Manager, Tom Hollander, 53, told Radio Times: “It’s no surprise she won her first Oscar and the second nomination was always a question of when rather than if.

“It comes very easily to her. She’s so talented it’s almost banal because there’s no process.

“She just has a go and most of the time it’s brilliant. I remember thinking, ‘This is the best actor I’ve ever performed with’.” Night Manager actor Alistair Petrie, 50, added: “She’s the best of us. And makes a mean cocktail to boot.”

And TV Broadchurch co-star David Tennant revealed Olivia will have no worries celebrating a big Oscar win, saying: “She’s a devil.”

Broadchurch writer Chris Chibnall said: “Look at what she’s done, and the characters she’s played. But I was blown away by watching her in The Father.

“On Broadchurch she was always trying to get us to go and get drunk while I was always keen to get home early and make a cup of tea.” Suzanne Mackie, who produces Netflix’s The Crown, in which Olivia plays the Queen, said of the star they call Collie: “She likes to have fun on set, with laughs between takes, but she’s deadly serious about her craft, about being a company leader and team player.

“She’s thoughtful about the world. She does charity work properly – no virtue-signalling from her.”

Suzanne added: “She cares, rolls up her sleeves and gets stuck in.”
