, 56, has been questioned and challenged on several occasions about a pay rise for staff and health workers after it was revealed they would only get a one percent increase in their wages. There has been huge opposition to this motion, with the threat of front-line workers leaving their roles on the agenda. However, after winning the Best British Female Solo Artist at the 2021 , Dua Lipa, 25, used her platform to send a message to the Prime Minister.

The chart-topper said to an audience of NHS and health care staff: “There’s a massive disparity between gratitude and respect for frontline workers.

“It’s all very well to clap for them but we need to pay them. We should send a message to Boris that we all support a fair pay rise for our front line.”

Taking to Twitter, those watching at home commented on the speech, with many divided over politics being used at the forefront of the music award’s ceremony.

“Since when did these shows become about Politics ffs (sic),” one fan vented in response to Dua Lipa’s speech.

A second added: Just turned on the #BRITs to hear someone giving a political speech about giving frontline workers a pay rise then someone else going on about Aids from the 80’s. If I want politics I’ll watch the news.”

While a third argued: “Remembering all those years ago when music was good & the Brits was about music, talent & fun… not politics & woke opinions! #thebritawards.”

However, the musician also had plenty of support, with one fan weighing in: “Dua Lipa blowing Boris Johnson clean out of the water at the #Brits. Brilliant acceptance speech brings the house down at the O2. What a girl.”

Another posted: “Biggest cheer of the night at the #Brits goes to Dua Lipa for calling on Boris Johnson to give better pay to #NHS frontline workers – wonder if this is a clap for the NHS that Tory ministers would join in with? Solidarity forever!”

“Yesssss great speech from Dua Lipa. My mum was a nurse in the 80s so I wholeheartedly agree that frontline workers deserve more pay,” a third commented.

Whilst a fourth shared: “Oh no! Dua Lipa has just said to an audience of key workers that Boris should give them a pay rise. And they clapped & cheered! The revolution starts here! #Brits.”
