Weight loss: Woman lost 9st on this diet plan


When it comes to losing weight, slimmers can choose from a range of diet plans. From going vegan like Simon Cowell – who has lost over a stone – to cutting out sugar like Love Island host Caroline Flack, there are many ways to shed the pounds. One woman recently lost 9st, and she has posted her transformation on Reddit. The 33-year-old woman – who goes by the screen name “itsontheradio” – took to the social media site to share her progress. She uploaded a before and after photo, with the latter showing her dressed in her white wedding gown. “My sister’s wedding versus my own,” she captioned the images. The slimmer revealed that she’d managed to slim down from 19st 3lbs to a much healthier 10st for her 5ft 5in frame.

So how did she do it?

The dieter revealed that she’d managed to lose weight on the keto diet.

Speaking to fans of the site, she said: “I followed a ketogenic diet. It took me about a year to lose it and I’ve been maintaining for about a year.”

What is the keto diet?

A predecessor to the famous Atkins diet, the keto diet is a high-fat, low-carb plan, which limits carbohydrates to 20 to 50 grams per day.

It has been credited by many for helping to achieve a slimmer figure and there’s some evidence to show that it may also be beneficial for Alzheimers diseases, certain cancers and other diseases, too.

There is also growing interest in the use of low-carbohydrate diets, including the ketogenic diet, for type 2 diabetes.

Nutritionist Hebe Mills recently warned Express.co.uk about the keto diet, due to the high fat content the diet embraces.

She said: “Be mindful of the high energy content in a number of foods recommended in the diet.

“Fat contains more calories than carbohydrate (which isn’t a bad thing in the slightest!) so it may be worth monitoring your energy intake if the purpose of the diet is for weight loss.”

Instead, she advised that the best way to lose weight is by having a calorie deficit.

“The best way to lose weight is to follow a diet in which you are in a calorie deficit – exercising and reducing the number of calories you are consuming on a daily basis will lead to weight loss and doesn’t require giving anything up,” she said.

She added: “Including lots of fruit and vegetables in your diet will naturally make you feel fuller during meal times and will help you to exercise portion control.”

It’s recommended that the average woman eat about 2000 calories per day to maintain, while men are required to eat 2500 daily.

However, this depends on numerous factors, such as age, height, current weight, activity levels, metabolic health and so on.

Although this is the recommended daily allowance, a calorie deficit is needed to lose weight. This is because excess energy is stored as fat in the body, therefore slimmers need to burn more calories than they eat to shed the pounds.

According to healthline.com, women can eat 1500 calories to lose one pound of weight a week, while men can eat 2000.
