While Cardenas was aware of the criticism for the show’s unexpected decision, he saw it as proof the show’s compelling writing was still having an effect on its audience.
He continued: “When I saw how much it shook and in some cases frustrated some fans, I just took it as a validation of all the hard work we all put into crafting the drama of Dante’s storyline.
“We really affected people, pulled viewers out of their comfort zone. That’s what you want good storytelling to accomplish.”
Now Maggie has returned to the series, fans will have to see if the upcoming 11th series follows Kirkman and Moore’s original story more closely.
