The CW has released a trailer for the new series of Riverdale, which promises an action-packed season four. This season, however, could be the final series of the CW and Netflix show, if a hint from Veronica Lodge (played by Camila Mendes) is anything to go by. Here’s the major clue from the promo that Riverdale is coming to an end.
Has Veronica Lodge confirmed the end of Riverdale season 4 in trailer?
At the beginning of the Riverdale season four trailer, Veronica says to Archie Andrews (KJ Apa): “Isn’t it crazy?
“In just nine months, life as we know it will be over.”
Though she is talking about their upcoming graduation from high school, this could also be a hint that Riverdale is finishing.
After all, if the main four characters are all set to go their own ways and, in some cases, move away to college, can Riverdale as we know it continue?
This follows in from comments Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa gave to The Hollywood Reporter.
He said that Riverdale season four: “Could be the last year this group of friends, this group of people, might be together.”
He later added: “It’s a huge step to go from high school to college.
“You say goodbye to your high school friends, you become more of a young adult, and I think that’s what season four’s really gonna be about.”
As for what’s next, however, nothing has yet been revealed.
However, with the show such a hit for The CW and Netflix, they might find a way to continue the show.
After all, Archie himself seems unlikely to go to college, while Veronica might decide to stay in Riverdale to manage her businesses.
Though this would mean less screen time for Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), who seem more likely to go to college, the show could survive.
Alternatively, the show could take a more wild step and have Jug and Betty go to uni in Greendale, opening up the chance for crossovers between Riverdale and Sabrina similar to those that happened in shows like Buffy and Angel.
Speaking of Buffy, Riverdale could follow the path of season four of that show and just follow its characters to college.
Then again, in a show as full of plot contrivances as Riverdale, they could easily find a way to make Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica stay at home for another year.
More will be known when The CW reveals whether they have commissioned another series of Riverdale or not.
Riverdale season 4 starts October 10 on The CW and October 11 on Netflix
