The 72nd Emmy Awards are underway but it’s a slightly different vibe to previous years. Even more so that Friend’s actress Jennifer Aniston was on hand with a fire extinguisher to put out flames that engulfed a waste paper bin as part of a humorous stunt by host Jimmy Kimmel.
This year’s ceremony is held from the nearly-empty Staples Centre in Los Angeles, where more than 100 nominees will broadcast themselves from their homes across the world.
But the fan-favourite actress unexpectedly threw aside her glamorous attire and became a firefighter, when she graced the stage in-person to present the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Before The Morning Show star, who is also nominated for an award for lead actress, could announce Catherine O’Hara from Schitt’s Creek had taken the prize, Jimmy took every precaution to sanitise the envelope concealing the winners name.
The pandemic still has everyone on edge!
He proceeded to soak the paper with a flammable spray before throwing it in a bin and setting it alight.
A humorous stunt to say the least, but like coronavirus, the flames had a mind of their own.
Once Jennifer had used her firefighting skills to combat the first bout, a small voice could be heard from behind the scenes.
“Put it out!” the voice shrieked, as both Jimmy and Jennifer were unaware the paper was still burning.
Taking to Instagram, she shared a snap of herself in a face mask – not the coronavirus kind – sitting in her pyjamas with her hair clipped back and a glass of bubbly in hand.
Producers of the show encouraged the nominees who were staying at home to dress however they wanted, and not to worry about kids and family pets with them when the winners are announced.
Jennifer however, was there in-person and began getting ready in an early fashion: “Emmys prep… in my other mask,” she captioned the photo.
“Congratulations to the nominees and all of the amazing performances we’ve seen this year.”
Fans gushed over her preparations, sending her all their luck.
“This is already my favourite look of the night! QUEEN,” one wrote.
Another said: “Voting for you all the way! My heart tells me you’ll take the gold! #TheMorningShow was my favourite show of the 2019-2020 television season by far. You absolutely killed it!”
“Good luck! You deserve this award!” a third chimed.
So far, Schitt’s Creek has tase home a multitude of awards, with the winners including Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara taking home the Lead Actor and Actress award, with Annie Murphy and Daniel Levy for Supporting Actor and Actress.
