Shona (played by Julia Goulding) was seen desperately searching for Natalie Watkins (Cassie Bradley) in Monday’s instalment of Coronation Street, hoping she could help David (Jack P Shepherd) land brother Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) behind bars.
In the ITV soap’s late night episodes a couple of weeks ago, David confessed he and Nick had used the money his brother had stolen from grandmother Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) to set up their barber business, unaware Nick was planning on pinning the blame on him.
After Nick’s partner Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) paid off Natalie to leave the country so the ruth ess businessman could dig his brother into a deeper hole, it looks ever more likely David will be going down for the fraud.
As Shona struggles with the prospect her husband-to-be is looking at a future behind bars, could this set up the reintroduction of her son Clayton (Callum Harrison)?
Earlier this year, Clayton fled from prison, having been serving a sentence for killing David’s late wife Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) and the drama concluded with the killer being put back behind bars.
Shona did state she would finally turn her back on her son after his reintroduction earlier this year happened as she desperately tried to save Clayton from thugs he was sharing a cell with.
Although it seemed viewers and Shona had seen the last of the twisted character, actor Callum Harrison, 20, has hinted he could make yet another return to the cobbles in some form.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Callum said: “I would like to go down the route of changing Clayton’s life around and showing knife crime, because knife crime’s a big thing nowadays.
“So, I’d love to be able to go through Clayton’s life and changing round and hopefully give a good example to the public because obviously, its really bad at the minute.
“I think that’s the road we need to go down. I would definitely love to explore that,” the star opined.
With David looking at a stint in jail, Shona could go behind her fiancés back to speak with her son on what makes a villain tick, wanting to understand why Nick is so determined on causing his brother misery.
However, if Clayton persuades his mother he is willing to turn his life around, could she be tempted to keep visiting him to help him stay on the path to redemption, leading her to lie to David again?
Although, another way Clayton could make his surprise return could be if David were to be sentenced and end up bumping into his ex-wife’s killer, leaving Shona in denial on whether she should reconnect with her estranged son?
Viewers will have to wait and see if the plot with Clayton thickens in the future but Shona will be taking a break from the cobbles in the coming months as actress Julia Goulding, 34, announced her pregnancy earlier this year.
Roy will tell Wayne Hayes (Adam Barlow) and Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) he wants to relaunch the search after shutting down any hopes on getting answers about the ring.
Wayne will introduce Roy to a stranger, Alice Parrott (Angela Curren), who leaves the cafe owner shaken with some surprise news.
It will emerge Roy’s late mother Sylvia Goodwin (Stephanie Cole) had an affair with Alice’s father and hands the cobbles stalwart a bundle of love letters.
The bombshell will lead Roy to depart Weatherfield to finally put his mother to rest by scattering her ashes in Cumbria.
Could another plot twist reveal Roy is Alice’s half-brother and will the newcomer pop up again in the near future?
